Fournos Bakery at Mulligatawny Farm Magaliesberg: 1-2 October 2016
September 20 2017 By Fournos
This is definitely not something to be missed! Thanks to the generosity of the owner, interior designer Michael Hogan, St George’s Turning Point Foundation will be the beneficiary of all proceeds from an open day of his magnificent gardens in the Skeerpoort valley, close to the Cradle of Humankind. Conceived on a grand scale and drawing on inspiration from the European landscape and Monet’s water gardens at Giverney, these 16-hectare gardens are testimony to one man’s vision.
The gardens at Mulligatawny Farm feature 130 varieties of waterlilies, thousands of roses, irises, crab apples and a large collection of bamboo varieties. There is an orchard of heritage fruit trees, a potager with hand- painted tiles depicting exotic birds, a folly and a grotto. A newly created Garden Cathedral is sure to be a major attraction. Other highlights include sculptures, murals and benches throughout the garden, and you are sure to be greeted by exceptional bird life at every turn.
The farm is approximately 70 kilometres from Johannesburg, and ample parking is available along the farm road, with a 500 metre walk to the gardens themselves—this is an outing only for those who are moderately fit. Car guards will be provided.
Fournos will be on hand to provide food, coffee and soft drinks, and there will be a farm stall laden with delicious treats.
Booking is now open! Tickets are R100 (R50 for children under 12)
